Stationary: 35th/Archer is coo-coo

May 29, 2012: My weekly CTA column came out today. Every week, I spotlight a different CTA station, picked at random, in my “Stationary” feature. Last week, I was at the 35th/Archer stop on the Orange Line and noticed that despite the spikes, pigeons still make this station their home. This week I’ll be at the Francisco stop on the Brown Line.

Runway train: All’s quiet at Midway Airport

May 28, 2012: I spent Memorial Day weekend in Colorado and Wyoming, and flew back from the Denver airport into the Midway airport late Monday night. There were very few people on the Orange Line train home. Since the Brown Line and the No. 9 Ashland bus on the North Side don’t run late, I found myself taking the train to a bus to another train to Belmont to a cab.

Rise and ride: Breakfast of champions

Stationary: LaSalle/Van Buren could use some paint

May 22, 2012: My weekly CTA column came out today. Every week, I spotlight a different CTA station, picked at random, in my “Stationary” feature. I write about the amenities I like at a station and those that could use change. Last week, I was at the LaSalle/Van Buren stop and noticed the Loop station, built in the 1800s, could use a paint job. This week I’ll be at the 35th/Archer stop on the Orange Line.

NATO summit: Platform for change

May 21, 2012: A Red Line train arrives at the Fullerton stop. There seemed to be fewer commuters on some platforms this morning as some workers opted to stay home on the final day of the NATO summit.

Police patrols at stops during NATO

May 20, 2012: This is a very blurry photo but the lighting is not great at the Clinton Blue Line stop. Several police officers patrolled the stop Sunday during the NATO summit. When I took this photo, there were about a dozen police officers at the stop, which is near Union Station, and only a handful of riders.

May 19, 2012: The Blue Line terminal at O’Hare as Chicago preps for the NATO summit to begin.

May 18, 2012: The Morgan stop on the Green and Pink Lines opened with no fanfare today in the West Loop.
